The fundamentals of the trip

I'm planning to go from Calgary, Alberta in Canada to Buenos Aires Argentina. The trip will start on July 12th 2009 and (hopefully) finish on August 25th 2009. The idea is to ride down south in my motorbike (BMW 650 Dakar) and cross north/central/south america.

The only Country I'll skip is Colombia, I'm planning to fly my bike from Panama City (Panama) to Quito (Ecuador).  I estimate riding around 17.000 Km (sorry I'm metric) and spending almost 45 days on the road.

I'm traveling solo, however some friends may join me in the trip.

I’m not really sure how the original idea started, but it was something that grew without me even noticing it, then it became something strong,  couldn’t stop doing it.

The primary reason was a celebration of my birthday (50 on November 12th 2009), however this is changing. Some other side dimensions started growing and are becoming more important that the original (selfish ?) intention of birthday celebration. I will do a fundraise for Unicef (I’m working on that now) and I’m planning to prepare a photo album to show the places and the people as I’m moving.

The process is changing the output and vice versa …interesting.

".....Do not use any maps.......do not plan.......the only important thing is to travel light, then, just ride, ride down south, Argentina is at the end of the continent, there is no way you'll miss it....."
