Que viva jalisco !!!!
I left Mazatlan this morning when it was already warm and humid, the road started to climb up to the mountains towards Tepic, and the air was cool and fresh.
After two hours I reached Tepic, I arrived at noon but the temperature was comfortable and the wind cool. As you leave the ocean you start going up and the scenery is like Argentina in Misiones, red soil and high humidity (see pics in Mexico); the twisted roads and mountains started, and it was really beautiful.
Tepic brought back some memories as it is the home town of a famous Mexican poet that I studied in the secondary school, Amado Nervo, I'm sure many knows his famous poem Vida:
Muy cerca de mi ocaso, yo te bendigo, Vida,
porque nunca me diste ni esperanza fallida,
ni trabajos injustos, ni pena inmerecida;
porque veo al final de mi rudo camino
que yo fui el arquitecto de mi propio destino;
que si extraje las mieles o la hiel de las cosas,
fue porque en ellas puse hiel o mieles sabrosas:
cuando planté rosales coseché siempre rosas.
... Cierto, a mis lozanías va a seguir el invierno:
¡mas tú no me dijiste que mayo fuese eterno!
Hallé sin duda largas las noches de mis penas;
mas no me prometiste tan sólo noches buenas;
y en cambio tuve algunas santamente serenas...
Amé, fui amado, el sol acarició mi faz.
¡Vida, nada me debes! ¡Vida, estamos en paz!
In English now...........
Very near my setting sun, I bless you, Life
because you never gave me neither unfilled hope
nor unfair work, nor undeserved sorrow/pain
because I see at the end of my rough way
that I was the architect of my own destiny
and if I extracted the sweetness or the bitterness of things
it was because I put the sweetness or the bitterness in them
when I planted rose bushes I always harvested roses
Certainly, winter is going to follow my youth
But you didn’t tell me that May was eternal
I found without a doubt long my nights of pain
But you didn’t promise me only good nights
And in exchange I had some peaceful ones
I loved, I was loved, the sun caressed my face
Life, you owe me nothing, Life, we are at peace!
Passing Tepic and while enjoying the twisted roads I passed Ixtlan del Rio, it remind me Carlos Castaneda book, “Trip to Ixtlan” (or The Teachings of Don Juan) the story about a Mexican “brujo” he met when he was doing research as anthropologist in the desert of Arizona and Sonora. I read that book many years ago and now I have the possibility to put some images, smells and faces to that pages (I recommend the readying, it's very interesting).
The Jalisco state received me with beautiful twsited roads for motorbikes and welcoming weather....que viva Jalisco !!!!!!!
I reached Tequila city in the midle of agave plantations......... yes Tequila city is the place where the majority of the Tequila produced and drunk around the world is processed , my bike tried to stop but I managed to keep going (after a picture).
The road is plenty of agave plantations
….yes the stuff that is used to produce Tequila, I'm not sure if you'll get Tequila chewing the plant but I'll try ….....doesn't look it will be that easy......
I arrived to Guadalajara city estate of Jalisco and head up to Germania motors where I meet Jesus (no kidding) ...... the BMW Motorrad mechanic, he'll check mi bike battery and stuff to make sure I did not left any bugs. I liked the guy, my bike can't be in better hands.....
I'll pick it up tomorrow noon but I think I'll stay in Guadalajara to make a deep visit to Tequila city and tour the Jose Cuervo distilleries.
Guadalajara looks like a beautiful city and I don't want to miss the opportunity to see around, the bike rode like a violin.......
Cheers
Jorge
