I had the opportunity to chat with Hernesto Obregon ...”Chamuco” (which means devil...), after a brief introduction I realized that he has the proper alias ….Ernesto travels almost 30.000 Km per year in motorbike with a group of friends !!!!! he had made it up to Punta Arenas (Chile) in 1974 !!! and rode almost 17000 Km in south Africa !!!! he will set me an interview today before departure with guy that just did central America to have fresh tips about the place.

When the bike was ready I headed towards Tequila....the city was establish by the conquistadores in 1500, the name is taken from a native word that means something like cutting ...there is a volcano that spreaded oxidiana in an eruption (bizillon years ago) all over and the natives used to cut their foot while walking....

One of the local producers obtained the exclusive right, for the city, to name the drink coming from the Mescal (Tequila), something similar to the Champagne case....streets are rough in parts

One of the first buildings was the church

This is the first canteen or saloon called “La capilla”, as per the locals the name is explained by either this two theories :

  • guys used to tell their spouses ..honey I'm going to the chapel (and run to hang up with friends and dubious companies)

  • People will come in walking and leave in their knees.......

The visit was great except the fact that some rain was waiting for me in the way back to Guadalajara at night. Today I'll live around noon and probably I'll stay over night in Morelia …...hope you guys enjoy the stories and pics .

Cheers

Jorge

".....Do not use any maps.......do not plan.......the only important thing is to travel light, then, just ride, ride down south, Argentina is at the end of the continent, there is no way you'll miss it....."
